Michał Stankiewicz, Junior Accountant

since March 2014 in the AR IPC department

Michał, what is your education? For some it may be a surprise.

I graduated in International Relations with a specialisation in Germanic studies at the University of Szczecin, so I have a humanities background. During my studies, thanks to the Erasmus program, I had the opportunity to spend 6 months in Zaragoza, Spain. Travelling has always been my passion; that's why I always wanted to find work that could be combined with it.

Tell us about the development of your professional career.

After my studies I travelled a lot – Holland, New Zealand – there I had the chance to do an internship at the embassy. I also took on other jobs – I worked on a farm, in bars, I cleaned. After a certain time I decided to return to Szczecin. I love Szczecin and would like to infect others with my passion, so I became a tourist excursion guide and city guide. Because of my various travels around the world and cooperation with the city, I obtained the title of 'Ambassador of Szczecin.'

After some time I went to Turkey with the European Volunteer Progam and spent 8 months there. After coming back to Szczecin, I found an interesting job offer – METRO SERVICES PL was looking for a Junior Accountant with Turkish. I was successful and joined the AR IPC team, but I had to learn all the matters connected to accounting from scratch. Work in the SAP system? Black magic. Accounting? I had no idea about it. I checked in the internet what the left and right side of accounts means. In 3 weeks I learned the basics and went away to Turkey to help in process migration. For 2.5 weeks in Istambul I was working together with Indians from MSERV Pune, as well as with METRO Turkey. Soon after returning from Turkey I left again, this time to Warsaw, to help colleagues from India with new process migration, of which I didn't really know anything. The dynamic environment, full of new challenges, and also the possibility of combining work with travel – these words well describe the place I work. There's also something very important for me - at MSERV I can work listening to music with my earphones!

Michał, you could finally boast about your language knowledge. Where did you learn them?

I know English, German, Spanish, Turkish and the basics of Dutch. I learned them all during my various travels, so I'm living proof of the saying that 'travel broadens the mind.'

Thank you for the interview!
